Atletico's injuries could give Real Madrid an edge in semis

Atletico have shaken off their inferiority complex against Real in every other competition under Simeone, beating them twice in the King's Cup and winning four of their last eight league derbies, but not in Europe's elite arena.

Real Madrid got the better of Atletico Madrid when the teams crossed paths in all the last three Champions League matches. There is even the more enticing possibility that Atletico will actually possess the best player on the pitch, given Antoine Griezmann's growth, and the ongoing reductionism of Cristiano Ronaldo's game.

The Argentine said away goals could be very important to how the tie between two evenly matched teams plays out. Atletico's history is one of heartbreak and hard luck stories while across the city Real are big, brash and successful and this has caused an inferiority complex. When you play a team like Real, with all the attacking talent they possess, you need to have more of a cushion; you can't just play the percentages. The live match will be telecasted on BT Sport and the highlights of the match Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid will be shown on the same channel at midnight.

Apart from the worry of losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League again, Atletico Madrid face a huge defensive crisis ahead of the massive Champions League match.

Even though recently Antoine Griezmann scored a late goal in the last Madrid derby in La Liga to snatch a draw and Lionel Messi netted a 93rd minute victor inEl Clasico after James Rodriguez had equalised in the 85th minute, the number of times Real Madrid have achieved the feat is brilliant.

"They have a lot of options, they can play with Isco, (Marco) Asensio or James (Rodriguez) in their starting lineup which they will consider".

Isco also remembered the penalty shootout against Atletico in Milan past year which Real won 5-3.

"We will find the solutions for the game on Tuesday", Simeone said, trying to stay positive. "We will try and be strong, and take the game to a place which is more comfortable for us".

Simeone has a serious problem at right-back, with specialists Sime Vrsaljko and Juanfran Torres injured and stand-in Jose Maria Gimenez twanging a hamstring in Saturday's 5-0 La Liga win at Las Palmas. Atletico has never lifted European club soccer's most prestigious trophy while Real has won it a record 11 times.

Right-back Dani Carvajal darted into the penalty area and drove in a low shot which goalkeeper Jan Oblak palmed onto Real forward Karim Benzema, who could only prod the ball wide. It'll be tight but hopefully we can take advantage of the spaces we create.

Atletico led until the 93rd minute of the 2014 final when Sergio Ramos's header sparked a Real fightback as they went onto win 4-1 in extra-time.
