The Will County Sheriff's Office stated that Gordon's attorney - who she'd hired during the day - helped authorities obtain consent to search the house at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, an hour before Crosby's body was found inside.
"I just want her home with mommy".
The mother has retained an attorney who Ackerson says has not allowed her to speak further. They said she disappeared while playing outside near her home, while a relative repaired a auto. Authorities have not confirmed that Semaj was found in her own home.
She was last seen wearing a gray long sleeve shirt, with the image of a cat's face, and jeans.
"Nah", Smith said. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has investigated Semaj's mother in the past for an allegation of neglect.
Department of Child Services has been working with the family since September 2016, with four unfounded investigations for neglect, and two other pending investigations for neglect opened in March 2017, agency officials said. They saw Semaj (suh-MAH-jay) and the woman's other two children and saw no apparent hazards or anything else that raised concerns about the children's safety, Ackerson said. At 16 months old, the child was walking but unlikely to get far.
The little girl was the subject of an intense manhunt from Tuesday evening until late Wednesday night when her body was found inside the house that is located about 40 miles southwest of Chicago.
By 10 a.m. Wednesday, a second team of bloodhounds was called to the scene from Cook County, authorities said.
Abandoned homes, garages were also being searched, officials said. The search was suspended late Wednesday.
"There are a lot of people from Chicago in that house", said one neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous. "Everyone in neighborhood tried to find that baby and the baby still [hasn't] came up".
People are asked to stay away from the area during the search.
The Will County Sheriff's Office said it considers disappearance to be a missing child case.
