Manchester United's Michael Carrick refuses to look beyond this season

"I didn't score a lot in my career and I remember very well when I scored".

All eyes will turn to Old Trafford on Sunday when Jose Mourinho engages in battle with Chelsea once again as Manchester United manager.

Really? You can bet Mourinho will want to put a dent in Conte's title aspirations particularly if Spurs get a win against Bournemouth today to cut the gap.

"At the end of my meeting with the manager I said "I'm going to prove you wrong".

He admits, all the same, that his task at Stamford Bridge this season has been simplified by the club's non-participation in Europe but says that alone does not explain their dominance in the Premier League.

The Portuguese will aim to lead his charges to victory in what could be a massive step to securing Champions League qualification for next season, always aware that the Red Devils must not lose sight of rivals Liverpool who enjoy the easier task of seeing off West Brom.

But Conte is wary, especially as United has gone 21 league games without defeat since its 4-0 mauling by Chelsea in October.

"Not every team defends with 11 players, they defend with 11 players".

"You say it's emotional but, for me, it's a game", Mourinho said. No different for me. They are also in contention to reach the continent's elite competition through the Premier League, as they are only four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, over whom they have a game in hand. The Blues also have the best away record in the top flight with a 36-point haul from 16 games, and have won their last three games on the road.

Mourinho's first return to Stamford Bridge since he was sacked at the end of 2015 saw United thrashed 4-0 in October - its heaviest league defeat since 2011.

But it is just another game according to their former Blues boss Mourinho.

It is a familiar lament, and with just 19 goals in their last 11 games there is much for Mourinho to think about, especially with the visit of Chelsea on Sunday.

Michael Carrick is frustrated with Manchester United's failure to kill off Anderlecht in Thursday's 1-1 Europa League first-leg draw at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

Luke Shaw hopes to get more opportunities in the Manchester United side to impress Jose Mourinho between now and the end of the season after declaring he is working harder than ever.

However, Chelsea has not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League for nine matches.
