Dietmar Hamann's Manchester City and Liverpool combined XI

Since returning to the fold in January, the 24-year-old has been unable to rekindle his talismanic spark, with one consolation effort netted in a 3-1 defeat at Leicester.

It's a fair bet Jurgen Klopp will have his team motivated and ready to rub salt into the Blues' wounds, so expect the visitors to race out of the blocks and press high as they bid to repeat last season's resounding win at the Etihad.

The flawless accompaniment to Henderson's energy in midfield, Silva's craft and guile sees him pip the likes of Yaya Toure and Emre Can to complete the central pairing in Hamann's XI.

"He has the ability to influence a game, it's really big". If he is not at 100 per cent you miss something, that's how it is.

"He has played almost the whole season so far so if he has one week with more treatment than training and another week with light training for him, then yes, he would be completely okay". Burnley wasn't his best game, but that's pretty normal after a long injury, this consistency. It was fluid, confident, he looked really well.

He thought that City's changes "were really good" but praised how their Ligue 1 opponents "always had an answer", adding: "City have changed a few things, with [Raheem] Sterling playing more consistently on the wing and it's really good to watch, I have to say".

The Brazilian was a sensation for Liverpool in the beginning of the season, but was out for close to seven weeks with an ankle injury in November.

Captain Jordan Henderson is not expected to return from a foot problem until the Merseyside derby after the global break, but on the positive front defender Dejan Lovren is fully fit after a 75-minute run out for the under-23s on Monday.

Klopp explained that City "have all these players who can obviously fulfil all the plans you have" which he believes is both "fantastic and an outstanding combination". We have to use it but around us is a lot of quality.

"Dejan Lovren had, for four weeks, a knee issue - nothing was fatigue".

"We took a little time to find the cause, a lot of specialists were looking for it, then he was fit again and he got a knee in his back when we trained set-pieces".

City's no-nonsense rock at the back beats Liverpool ever-present Nathaniel Clyne to the right-back berth, despite splitting his appearances with Bacary Sagna this season.
